Welcome to Capital of Caring!

We are a "not-for-profit" social enterprise based in Liverpool, England. Our aim is to help inspire a lasting, positive shift in social attitudes.

At Capital of Caring we celebrate what makes our region, Liverpool and the rest of Merseyside, a uniquely caring place.

We want to focus on the enormous amount of good news, people and events... all too often unreported in our media. We want to inspire and remind people of what a great place this is, and to build upon the 'feelgood' arising from Liverpool's 2008 Capital of Culture year.

We want to also remember 2008 as the first year of Capital of Caring!

We know that our aims present quite a challenge and that it could take a generation or more to achieve. But even though it can't be easy or quick, we will not be deterred from starting.

twiggy And what better way to get started than with the help of Liverpool's world famous icons, the Liver Birds?

So we have created lots of beautiful, 6" high, cute and caring versions who we have called Twiggy & Beaky. (There is a reason we gave them these names, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it )

If you see Twiggy & Beaky, say 'hi'....

and take a moment to think of what the Liver Birds mean to the people of Merseyside. A smile will be enough to make a difference.

Twiggy & Beaky like to be seen everywhere, especially...

...in classrooms where children hold them to share a happy tale...
...on newsdesks, inspiring journalists to write a caring story...
...n police stations, and hospitra wards, putting some light into a hard day
...on company reception desks putting a smile on the face of customers
...in old folks homes, reminding our elderly relatives of happy days
...in football grounds, sporting the appropriate colours, of course...
...and we will see them at the airport, the train stations and at the liner terminal, and visitors taking them home, a lasting memento of their time here, of the people they met and of our special culture of caring!

beaky But Capital of Caring is not just about Twiggy & Beaky... it is a social enterprise aimed at sustainable improvement in community wellbeing.

And Twiggy & Beaky are not just soft toys - they are a lasting source of positive inspiration to everyone; an 'anchor' and a visible reminder of who we are and the region we share; and a reminder to our visitors of why they came to Liverpool.... and why they will be coming back again!

And they can mark the beginning of an era when Liverpool wins, year after year after year, the title of 'the most caring community in the UK'.

The possibilities are enormous. And we have future ideas and plans that will help realise those possibilities.
