Welcome to Capital of Caring!

We are a "not-for-profit" social enterprise based in Liverpool, England. Our aim is to help inspire a lasting, positive shift in social attitudes. At Capital of Caring we celebrate what makes our region, Liverpool and the rest of Merseyside, a uniquely caring place.

twiggy ever_wonder ...when someone tells you that you 'look well', it usually brightens your day?

Well, this is a well known effect that is widely promoted and practised by successful people, teams and organisations. It's sometimes called the 'feelgood effect'... the more we tell ourselves that things are good and getting better, the better we feel and the more successful we become!

On the other hand, if we choose to fill our minds with every bad news story the media can find, we should not be surprised if we become ever more negative and 'attract' more of the same into our everyday lives!

The great irony is that, even though society is overwhelmingly kind, respectful and full of caring stories (and perhaps nowhere more than here on Merseyside), we still seem to prefer stories about scandal, misfortune, guns & knives and asbo's, and the tiny minority of society responsible for them.

like_good_news beaky The editor of a local newspaper once told us, "It's the bad news that people want us to report." And so that is what they give us.

But is he right? Perhaps.

We think that he means that it's the most UNCOMMON events that are newsworthy. Uplifting, good news stories are probably far too commonplace to be of interest.

We want to focus exclusively on the enormous amount of good news, people and events... all too often unreported in our media. We want to inspire and to constantly remind ourselves of what a great place this is, and also to build upon the 'feelgood' arising from Liverpool's 2008 Capital of Culture.

We aim for Liverpool to be recognised, year after year after year, as 'the most caring community in the UK'.

It's a challenge, and it can't be easy or quick. So the sooner we start, the better. And when more appropriate than 2008!

We will raise money by...

training people and organisations to win success through their caring culture
selling Twiggy & Beaky, 'cute & caring Liver Birds' inspiring products
winning corporate and project sponsorship and donations
writing and marketing Capital of Caring books and articles, ranging from adventure novels to cartoon strips to business tips
offering advertising space in Capital of Caring web sites and journals

The money will go towards projects that...

help lonely people to feel valued and supported
bring young and old together to build trust and respect
recognise and support caring ideas and projects
provide schools with new ways to inspire children and their families
enhance the caring reputation of our local authorities and public services
...and more

twiggy our_first_project ..takes its inspiration from Liverpool's world famous icons, the Liver Birds. We have created lots of beautiful, 6" high, cute and caring 'soft toy' versions. We have called them Twiggy & Beaky

We hope that they will become a popular buy for everyone. So far, children and mums and dads love them! And they love the Twiggy & Beaky badges, too! You can find out more about them, and how to #39;adopt' your own, at their website
